Lighting Council CEO appointed to Global Lighting Association
The CEO of Lighting Council Australia, Bryan Douglas, has been appointed Secretary General of the Global Lighting Association (GLA). The position is based in Canberra and Douglas will undertake the role for a two-year term, in addition to his Lighting Council Australia duties.
Douglas has been an active member of the GLA since its inception and has previously served as chair of its Environment Committee. GLA President Jan Denneman said Douglas “has been an active and influential member of the GLA and understands the transition the industry is in”.
In addition to his role as CEO of Lighting Council Australia, Douglas is also the CEO of SPARC International Lighting Event and SPARC Design. He has worked in peak bodies for industries including defence electronics, consumer electronics, electrical capital equipment, information technology and real estate.
Douglas said his appointment will provide Lighting Council Australia with special insights at a time of significant change in the global lighting industry.
“With the advent of large-scale LEDification and digitalisation, and the associated profound growth in manufacturing, it is an exciting time to assume the role of Secretary General of the Global Lighting Association,” he said.
As the peak body for the world’s lighting industry, the GLA represents over 5000 lighting manufacturers and US$50 billion in annual sales. Lighting Council Australia is a foundation member of the predecessor organisation to the GLA, according to its chairman, Russell Loane OAM, and has played a prominent role in the association’s deliberations.
