Community grants for non-toxic weed removal

Friday, 20 September, 2013

The broad-spectrum systemic herbicide glyphosate has, according to new research, been considered unsafe for humans, with links to many devastating diseases. Australian legislation passed on 21 August prevents 2 4 D, the active ingredient in common herbicides, from being used in any Australian products.

In light of this, weed control service Weedtechnics has developed an alternative, non-toxic method of weed removal. The company’s Steamwand apparatus uses water and heated steam to kill weeds safely and sustainably.

The Steamwand’s developer, Jeremy Winer, has announced the launch of the Weedtechnics Community Grant Program ‘50 in 50’. To help remove harmful herbicides from the urban environment and to create green jobs, Weedtechnics will subsidise up to 30% off a Steamwand SW series to groups across Australia.

“Community groups provide valuable services in education, training, landcare and clean food production,” said Winer. “I want to support and work closely with these community groups so that they can increase weeding productivity without having to use herbicides. I will personally train the groups in the safe and productive use of our technology.”

Community groups, schools and landcare project groups are encouraged to share news of the grant program to help Weedtechnics achieve its target of 5000 ‘Likes’ to commence the program.

Interested parties can ‘like’ Weedtechnics on Facebook and register their interest in applying for the grant by emailing Jeremy@weedtechnics.com.
