'Speed date' a sustainability expert
Marrickville Council has organised an event allowing residents to meet with sustainable home designers, architects and builders for free advice on environmentally friendly building and renovating.
To be held on 29 March from 2-4.30 pm, the event offers attendees the chance to meet with up to two experts. Over the course of just 13 minutes, each expert will offer their advice on how to make homes and gardens greener.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for our community to go green at home,” said Mayor of Marrickville Jo Haylen.
“This event will help our keen residents to make much better choices in their homes and gardens, saving them time and money and helping save our environment.”
The event has been recommended by local resident Leonie McNamara, who has achieved green goals in her home like maintaining a comfortable temperature without air conditioning, installing a rainwater tank that also supplies the second toilet and washing machine, planting edible gardens and more.
“Every conscious choice [to be sustainable] makes a big impact and the first leads on to the next,” she said.
“The more knowledge and information you have, the more empowered you are to make those choices.”
Speed Date a Sustainability Expert will be run by the not-for-profit Alternative Technology Association, in partnership with Marrickville Council, at Marrickville Town Hall. Register at www.marrickville.nsw.gov.au/speeddate.
