Water trade is a valuable tool for Murray-Darling Basin communities, says NWC report
18 April, 2012Released this week, the report, Impacts of water trading in the southern Murray-Darling Basin between 2006-07 and 2010-11, produced by the National Water Commission shows that selling water to the Commonwealth buyback program has not negatively impacted production. In fact, regional communities in the southern Murray-Darling Basin have remained productive even during drought, said Commissioner Laurie Arthur at a launch of the report at the Australian Water Congress 2012.

Scientists call for more transparency in proposed Murray-Darling Basic Plan
13 April, 2012The volume of water needed to secure the long-term sustainability of the Murray-Darling river system cannot be identified clearly due to a lack of transparency in the proposed Murray-Darling Basin Plan, more than 60 Australian scientists say in a special joint statement.
Pumping out new technology
22 March, 2012The laboratories at the AWMC (Advanced Water Management Centre) at The University of Queensland are set up to cater for numerous experiments to develop sustainable techniques for water management. For the range of biological and process experiments that are conducted at the university, it was important for the laboratory to have pumps that were accurate, flexible to be used in different applications and easy for the researchers to set up and integrate, with technical assistance if required. Watson-Marlow pumps were selected for this purpose.

Water efficiency in Australia at the crossroads
27 April, 2011 by Edgar Johnson*Widespread flooding across Australia has the potential to push back hard fought water-efficiency gains made over the past decade. It’s concerning to think that the devastating floods may have shifted the water management mindset in Australia and effectively masked what still is a critical water challenge for communities across the entire nation.
Groundwater management and engineering
12 April, 2011 by Michael Mozina*Underpinning the feasibility assessment, design and construction phases for a range of engineering infrastructure works requires a sound knowledge and understanding of how hydrogeology (groundwater) can be impacted and managed. With prolonged drought, emerging climate change impacts and population growth, increased demand for groundwater to augment water supply and greater recognition of the groundwater value presents new challenges and requirements for the engineering sector.
