Harvesting biomass from fast-growing trees
ARENA has announced $2 million in funding to help develop a solution for collecting renewable biomass from fast-growing trees. The funds will support research and development business Biosystems Engineering in its further developing, building and testing an innovative woody biomass harvester. [ + ]

Student's stormwater system for NZ car park
New Zealand engineering student Rachel Harrison has designed a new stormwater system as part of Calibre Consulting's work to extend the Porirua Railway Station car park. Her system will prevent flooding in the car park and remove contaminants from runoff before it enters the Porirua Stream. [ + ]
Landfill cell opens in Logan City
The Browns Plains Waste and Recycling Facility, located in Logan City, South-East Queensland, has opened its new 1.2 million m3 landfill disposal cell. The cell is built to modern-day engineering standards and is estimated to be large enough to receive waste into the 2020s. [ + ]
Yingli panels to power Europe's largest solar plant
Solar panel manufacturer Yingli Green Energy will supply 120 MW of YGE 72 Cell solar panels to the largest solar power park in Europe. Located in Cestas in the south-west of France, the park will cover 250 ha divided into 25 solar plants, providing a total peak capacity of 300 MW. [ + ]
APC funds 26 waste-diversion projects
The latest round of Australian Packaging Covenant Projects Funding will see $4.5 million invested in 26 projects across Australia. The covenant provides funding to projects which contribute towards the achievement of goals, sustainable packaging outcomes and increase the recovery and recycling of packaging waste in Australia.
