APC funds 26 waste-diversion projects

Wednesday, 26 November, 2014

The latest round of Australian Packaging Covenant (APC) Projects Funding will see $4.5 million invested in 26 projects across Australia. The covenant provides funding to projects which contribute towards the achievement of goals, sustainable packaging outcomes and increase the recovery and recycling of packaging waste in Australia.

The projects, worth a total of $11 million, include a public education campaign to reduce litter and illegal dumping; the installation of public place recycling bins; improvements in the collection of recyclable material from remote Indigenous communities; and the introduction of modified plastic packaging which increases recyclability. Together, they will collectively reduce resource loss to landfill by over 30,000 tonnes.

APC CEO Stan Moore said the covenant is “pleased to bring industry and government together to find and fund solutions to reduce resource loss to landfill and further contribute to reduction in litter”. He believes the collaborative approach enabled by the APC framework has proved successful in this endeavour.
