The Virtual Bed Interface (VBI) is a bed level device suitable for the most severe applications in the process and waste industries.

It is designed for the extreme conditions of the alumina industry, and so makes it suitable for any harsh industrial application. Particular attention has been paid to material selection due to the severely corrosive environment created by the high temperature caustic used in alumina CCD circuits. Extensive use is made of both stainless steel and teflon.

The VBI operates on the diver principle. It lowers a turbidity probe into the thickener and so generates a turbidity profile. The probe can be lowered 20 m into the process at temperature up to 105°C. Due to the harshness of the process environment the probe is automatically cleaned on the completion of every cycle. Additionally, the system is re-zeroed each time the probe enters the cleaning station.

It also features an operator touch screen interface and a 316 stainless steel drive motor.
