One Central Park awarded at 'the Oscars of the property world'

One Central Park, the residential tower complex located at the $2 billion Central Park urban village in Sydney’s Chippendale, has been named the Best Innovative Green Building at the 2015 global MIPIM Awards.

One Central Park comprises 623 apartments in two adjoining towers linked by a recreation podium including a new urban shopping centre. Designed by French architecture practice Ateliers Jean Nouvel in collaboration with Australian firm PTW, the building features Nouvel’s signature - a monumental cantilever - expressed as a Sky Garden extending from level 29 of One Central Park’s taller East tower.

The cantilever supports a light-reflecting heliostat system, while the largest en masse vertical garden in the world - covering 1100 m2 and designed by artist and botanist Patrick Blanc - covers the exterior facades. The heliostat design feature is the first of its kind to be used in a residential context in Australia and the largest of its type in the world used in an urban environment.

The MIPIM (Le marché international des professionnels de l’immobilier) Awards honour the most outstanding real estate projects around the world at an annual ceremony in Cannes, France. One Central Park was the only Australian finalist in both Best Innovative Green Building and Best Residential Development, eventually triumphing in the former category against some of the world’s most sustainable projects.

The acknowledgement is one of several international and national awards won by One Central Park since its completion in December 2013. According to Caddey, the development is “an exemplar of what can be achieved when world-leading design partners collaborate and pioneering sustainability initiates are undertaken: a development that is truly innovative and unique”.
