Nominations open for 2013 Premier’s Sustainability Awards
Nominations for the 2013 Premier’s Sustainability Awards are now open, recognising individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to promoting business sustainability in Queensland.
Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection Andrew Powell said many innovative businesses, industries and communities were working towards building a stronger, more competitive and sustainable future.
“These awards recognise the promotion of sustainable living and education, and the benefits they bring to our environment, lifestyle and future generations,” Powell said.
“I strongly encourage Queensland-based businesses, communities, schools and individuals to nominate for this year’s awards.”
Premier Campbell Newman said the awards would showcase Queensland’s commitment to making environmental management a key part of a four-pillar economy.
“Looking after the environment is central to the future success of our agriculture, tourism, mining and infrastructure sectors, and these awards will help encourage sustainable processes as profit-drivers for industry,” he said.
Powell said award categories included Built Environment, Business Eco-efficiency, Community, Innovation in Sustainable Technologies, Rural, School, Small Business and the Minister’s Award for Leadership in Sustainability.
“The pinnacle of the 2013 awards program is the Premier’s Award, which recognises an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to promoting and advancing business sustainability in Queensland,” he said.
“I look forward to seeing a wide variety of nominations from across Queensland.”
The awards are supported by Australian Country Choice, Bendigo Bank, Carlton & United Breweries, Coles, Mitchell Builders, Network Ten, QUT, The Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, Thiess and Xstrata.
Nominations for the 2013 Premier’s Sustainability Awards close on 15 March 2013 and the awards presentation will take place on 14 June 2013 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
