GBCA announces Future Green Leader Award
The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has launched the Future Green Leader Award to recognise and reward emerging sustainability leaders with creative ideas and commitment to the property and construction industry.
GBCA Chief Executive Romilly Madew said the award will “honour up-and-coming sustainability specialists who are demonstrating strong leadership and potential”.
“Sustainability professionals are acutely aware that we don’t inherit the planet from our ancestors, but borrow it from our children,” Madew continued. “This award is an exciting new platform for us to promote the critical role that our industry’s future leaders will play in creating a sustainable built environment for us all.
“We hope this new award will also inspire other young people at the start of their careers to embrace sustainable thinking.”
Award entrants must outline - using written, video or visual media - what drives their interest in sustainability. Applicants must be under the age of 30 and be members of the GBCA’s Future Green Leaders network, which is free to join.
The winner will receive a one-year VIP pass to unlimited GBCA events, courses, site tours and online learning, a coveted speaking spot at Green Building Day 2015, three mentoring sessions with an industry leader and recognition as the Future Green Leader 2014.
The Future Green Leader Award is being supported by property group Australand and carpet tile company Interface. Australand Managing Director Bob Johnston noted, “The focus on sustainability within the property industry has increased significantly over the last 10 years. Future Green Leaders will continue to encourage this evolution.”
