ACA reveals how to prevent corrosion

Wednesday, 12 November, 2014

Corrosion - the deterioration of a material or its properties due to a reaction with the environment - can cause dangerous and expensive damage to many types of structures, including pipelines, bridges, buildings and ships. At the Australasian Corrosion Association’s (ACA) 2014 Corrosion and Prevention (C&P) Conference, industry experts, academics and representatives of commercial organisations were brought together to explore best practice in corrosion management, environmental protection, public safety and economics.

Held in Darwin and themed ‘Get On Top of Corrosion’, the conference featured keynote speaker Warren Green, director and corrosion engineer at Vinsi Partners and Adjunct Associate Professor at Deakin University’s Institute for Frontier Materials, who spoke about electrochemistry and its effect on the durability of concrete. A trade exhibition allowed attendees to see the latest equipment and products available to the industry, while social events provided networking opportunities for sponsors, exhibitors and attendees.

The 2015 C&P Conference will be hosted in Adelaide, but before then, ACA will be holding the seminar ‘Protective Coatings Preventing Corrosion’ at the Novotel Brisbane on 20 November. The event will see Justin Rigby, a coatings consultant at Remedy Asset Protection, detailing the need to be flexible and adaptable when developing protective coating projects.
