Finding water solutions

DuPont Water Solutions has a 50-year legacy of providing innovative water and process solutions to both communities and industries alike.

DuPont Water Solutions offers a broad portfolio of ion exchange resins, reverse osmosis membranes, ultrafiltration membranes and electrodeionisation products, with strong positions in a number of major application areas, including industrial and municipal water, chemical processes, pharmaceuticals, power, residential water and wastewater reuse.

Ultrafiltration

Ultrafiltration technology uses a membrane barrier to exclude particles as small as 0.01 µm, including bacteria, viruses and colloids. Advantages of ultrafiltration compared with conventional treatment, such as clarifiers and media filters, are its high tolerance to feed water quality upsets, absolute barrier and improved water quality.

DuPont’s ultrafiltration portfolio features IntegraFlux Ultrafiltration Modules and IntegraPac Ultrafiltration Skids that utilise high-permeability XP fibre to improve operating efficiencies and productivity. The modules incorporate PVDF hollow fibre membranes in an outside-in flow configuration with a 0.03 µm nominal pore diameter, making them an excellent choice to protect downstream processes such as reverse osmosis. The modules have a high removal capability for viruses, bacteria, suspended solids, colloids and pathogens from water and have been tested and certified by NSF International under NSF/ANSI Standard 61, and also have NSF/ANSI 419 LRV certifications facilitating safe use in drinking water applications.

Reverse osmosis and nanofiltration

Reverse osmosis technology is used for softening industrial water, demineralising brackish water, desalinating seawater and more. Compared with other filtration technologies that rely on a screen or filter to remove particles, reverse osmosis and nanofiltration are pressure-driven separation processes that employs a semi-permeable membrane and the principles of cross-flow filtration.

Ion exchange resins

Ion exchange resins are polymers capable of exchanging ions with ions in a solution that is passed through them.

DuPont’s ion exchange resins serve applications as diverse as industrial water softening, pharmaceutical formulations, sweetener purification, mining and more. The resins come in a variety of chemical compositions, polymer structures, and particle sizes to meet current and developing industry needs and requirements.

Electrodeionisation

Electrodeionisation is a continuous process of removing ionisable species from feedwater using DC power. DuPont’s modules offer a cost-effective and chemical-free alternative to mixed-bed ion exchange resins for polishing reverse osmosis permeate and eliminate the need to store and handle hazardous chemicals used for resin regeneration.

The patented electrodeionisation module designs utilise a distinct, leak-free, low-maintenance spiral-wound design containing a membrane and ion exchange resins, sealed in a high-strength fibreglass-reinforced plastic pressure vessel, making them an ideal choice for high-purity water needs.
