Hydro-optic water disinfection

The Atlantium out-of-the-water UV disinfection system is suitable for the treatment of water and wastewater used in industrial and municipal processes.
The chemical-free process uses hydro-optic disinfection (HOD) technology and is designed to replace traditional disinfection methods such as chlorine, ozone and pasteurisation.
It is suitable for a range of applications within the food, beverage and aquaculture industries, among others.
Features include: a large quartz tube that acts as an effective light trap, using the concept of 'total internal reflection' (the same phenomenon used in fibre-optic cables).
This creates a uniform distribution of the UV light throughout the system's cross-section to achieve high levels of microorganism inactivation; dual-controlled sensors that independently monitor system performance, ensuring the light intensity matches specific requirements, and allowing users to adjust the dosage based on the water's flow rate and UV transmissivity; the compact design provides for simple maintenance, with negligible reactor cleaning, near zero downtime, low energy consumption and easy installation and retrofit; and the technology eliminates the mechanical and thermal drawbacks of immersed lamp designs, separating the electrical mechanism from the wet chamber and reducing the possibility of sleeves fouling.
The lamp out-of-water design eliminates the product risks involved with lamp breakages.

Using HOD to disinfect process and product water is also claimed to result in healthier, tastier food - free of chemicals and disinfection by-products - and extends the food's shelf life.
