Name of alliance launched

Monday, 03 September, 2007

In conjunction with the Water Corporation, ABB Australia has officially launched the name of the Water Corporation and ABB SCADA Alliance — the Integrated Control Engineering (ICE) Alliance.

This name reflects the ongoing role of the alliance in respect of the business, project and maintenance needs of the Water Corporation.

"This announcement follows some 14 months of successful operation and considerable expansion, which has included ABB moving to larger more suitable premises. The Alliance Agreement was formally established in early 2006 for the provision of SCADA Integration Services for the water assets located in Western Australia," Roland Vitelli, ABB Australia, power systems vice-president said.

"The ICE Alliance is now one of a growing number of alliances successfully providing services to the Water Corporation. These alliances are founded on a commitment of trust, equity and openness and provide opportunities for significant ongoing improvements in project costs and quality," Neil La Roche, Water Corporation, manager project management said.

"Given the increased focus on improved water quality, conservation and distribution management, the Water Corporation is continually improving its ability to monitor and control its water network to optimise operations. The application of intelligent SCADA control and communication systems is pivotal in achieving this."

The ICE Alliance is currently working on a number of important Water Corporation projects, along with many smaller projects in the Metropolitan and Goldfields regions:

  • Perth Seawater Desalination Plant — SCADA and automation applications
  • Binduli Reservoir — SCADA and automation applications
  • Goldfields and Agricultural Water System (G&AWS) Main Conduit — upgraded automation facilities

Further, significant system upgrades in respect of the G&AWS radio communications, MicroSCADA Master Station and SCADA Disaster Recovery facilities are in progress.
