Will handle more than 16,000 litres of seawater per second
KSB Germany is set to deliver a huge vertical tubular casing pump for an intake structure in Saudi Arabia.
Driven by a powerful and highly energy-efficient 4200-kilowatt synchronous motor, the SEZA 24-160 pump unit will handle more than 16,000 litres of seawater per second.
The water will be pumped into a piping system to supply Yanbu’s industrial park. This pump is being added to the system as part of the upgrade of the seawater pump house. The owner is Marafiq, Saudi Arabia’s Jubail and Yanbu’s first power and water utility company. The main EPC contractor is Earth Gift for Gas, Oil and Water Technology Co Ltd (EarthTech).
While the pump alone weighs around 60 tonnes, the entire pump unit will weigh about 100 tonnes. Each piece of equipment is designed for facilitating easy handling through the existing lifting facilities in the pump house. The wetted parts will be made of seawater-resistant duplex materials.
KSB is expected to deliver the pump unit to the customer by September 2010.
