The Isan System is an iodine-based disinfection system that monitors the iodine dosage in a tank or a flowing water stream second by second and adjusts the dosage automatically to maintain a desired dosage rate.
The technology offers the user the ability to set and forget, as the system is not just a proportional dosing system, it will self-adjust to changes in organic load, or other contaminants, to maintain the desired dosage rate.
Pure iodine is used, in very low dosages, as a broad spectrum disinfectant. Some of the claimed benefits of iodine, as used in the Isan System, are: iodine is 4-5 times more powerful than chlorine (ie, dosages can be 4-5 times lower to achieve the same disinfection result); iodine is seven times less corrosive than chlorine, and when used in lower dosages increases this coefficient; iodine does not react with ammonia, nitrates and other nutrients, which limits its ‘side reactions’. It is less reactive than chlorine, so it reacts to organic materials more slowly, allowing for more efficient killing of harmful pathogens; iodine does not produce trihalomethanes.
The Isan system also has the ability to extract all of the iodine out of the water, allowing for water recycling; previously, this was not possible.
The system is suitable for fruit and vegetable growers for post-harvest sanitation, food processors, hydroponics vegetable and flower growers, wholesale nurseries, industrial water re-use and the dairy industry. Other potential markets which use chlorine for disinfection include sewage treatment, poultry drinking water and processing, beverage manufacturing, cooling towers and many more.
