Parsons Brinckerhoff helps provide water security to Dalby, Qld
The Dalby Wastewater Recycling Plant has been officially opened by the Hon Desley Boyle, MP, Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Partnerships.
As Project Superintendent, Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) assisted to deliver the $2.35 million project with the Western Downs Regional Council.
Speaking from the opening, PB’s Principal Water Engineer, Ian Cameron, said Dalby residents now have access to drinking water which is not compromised by the water demands of industrial users.
“The plant provides Class A+ recycled water to a nearby industrial business.
“Previously, this business was using drinking water for its industrial processes.
“Available drinking water can now be supplied directly to residents rather than used for industrial processes.
“PB adapted the way in which water is delivered to Dalby residents by separating a dedicated recycled water pipeline at the Dalby Wastewater Treatment Plant to deliver the high-quality water to the industrial user.
“The treatment process was achieved without altering the existing infrastructure or biological wastewater operation.
“The plant included technologies such as submerged ultrafiltration membrane, followed by ultraviolet disinfection and final chlorination to maintain water quality,” said Cameron.
Jointly funded by the Western Downs Regional Council, the Queensland government and Dalby Biorefinery, the plant provides long-term water security to residents.
