Atlas Copco ZS 18–160 kW blower
The Atlas Copco ZS 18–160 kW positive displacement screw blower is suitable for most wastewater treatment plants. It is designed to the company’s plug-and-play set-up, making installation easy, and features a small footprint.
The blower features Atlas Copco’s screw technology, which can achieve a turndown of up to 80% in flow. This large turndown capability enables wastewater treatment plans to eliminate over-aeration during low demand periods and removes the risk of the side effect of unpleasant odours that is often associated with over-aeration.
The wastewater unit is rated for 80 kPag pressure to allow for diffuser fouling and line losses and is interfaced controlled with Atlas Copco’s Elektronikon controller. It can be delivered with a built-in variable speed drive (VSD) or use a user-supplied drive. It also has an unlimited start and stop capability.
The product is a suitable replacement for conventional lobe blowers, with its screw design eliminating the pulse harmonics associated with lobe blowers. The pulsations from lobe units can be dampened by mixing in a screw unit with the lobes. By eliminating these pulsations there are fewer complaints from nearby residential areas.
The screw blowers can be coupled with any other technology to give good control and energy savings. There are multiple control variations available — including external speed control, constant pressure and multiple constant flow settings — which can be adjusted to suit the fluctuating demands of a treatment plant.
