Recycle your mobiles for the Salvos
This World Environment Day (5 June), MobileMuster is calling on all Victorian, Tasmanian, South and Western Australian residents to recycle their old mobiles, batteries and accessories at their local Salvos Stores to protect our environment and raise money for Salvos Stores. MobileMuster has pledged to give Salvos Stores in these states $2 for every kilogram of old mobiles collected.
“We’ve developed our partnership with Salvos Stores to show people the many values of recycling their old unused mobile phones,” said MobileMuster Recycling Manager Rose Read. “By simply digging out that old mobile phone you no longer use you’re supporting their much needed charity work, plus helping the environment.”
MobileMuster has released five tips for recycling your e-waste:
- Organise what you have. Knowing how many spare chargers, adapters and handsets you have will prevent you from making unnecessary purchases.
- Be ruthless. Will you ever use that circa 2000 old analog mobile handset again?
- Your phone has value. Your old phone is worthless gathering dust or sitting in the back of your drawer. By recycling it through MobileMuster you can avoid unnecessary mining of precious minerals, as over 90% of its components and materials are recyclable.
- Stop making excuses. Recycling with MobileMuster is free and easy - go to mobilemuster.com.au to find out how to recycle.
- Give and help your community. With MobileMuster your old phone helps your community. By digging it out from storage and recycling it with MobileMuster, you can help Salvos Stores make an impact in your community.
“World Environment Day is the perfect excuse to dig out your old mobile phone and recycle it with MobileMuster,” said Salvos Stores CEO Allen Dewhirst. “By recycling your old mobile, you will be helping us raise much needed funds to support the valuable Salvation Army programs.”
Since the inception of MobileMuster, the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry in Australia, over 1000 tonnes of old mobile phone components have been recycled, replacing the need to mine over 25,270 tonnes of metal ore. There are over 4000 drop-off points around Australia where you can recycle your old mobile, battery and accessories, while free recycling satchels are available from Australia Post.
