MRI to administer DHL's product stewardship scheme
E-waste processor MRI will assume the administration responsibilities of DHL Supply Chain’s national television and computer recycling product stewardship arrangement ‘Drop Zone’, effective 1 February.
Drop Zone has enabled the recycling of more than 50,000 tonnes of e-waste across more than 580 collections locations across Australia since commencing in 2011, providing 97% of the Australian population with access to an e-waste recycling option. Additionally, the scheme supports several multinational OEMs in the return and recycling of their end-of-life products.
MRI has been one of DHL’s most significant recycling partners throughout the duration of the scheme, owing to its 20+ years in computer, television and battery recycling. According to the company’s managing director, Will LeMessurier, “MRI is strongly positioned to provide liable parties (ie, brands, imports and manufacturers) under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme, with a ‘total service’ for responsible recovery and best practice processing of their products.
“MRI is committed to providing efficient and cost-effective product stewardship services to electronics manufacturers and importers, ensuring that their products are collected and recycled to the highest environmental standards, while also delivering significant environmental and social benefits to the community and business,” LeMessurier continued.
MRI PSO, a wholly owned subsidiary of MRI, has been established to operate the arrangement. It will be led by CEO Rose Read, the former manager of mobile phone recycling program MobileMuster, from 15 February.
“We are particularly excited that Ms Read will be taking on the position of CEO,” said LeMessurier. “She brings strong leadership and management skills and extensive experience in delivering successful product stewardship outcomes. Her knowledge of e-waste recycling in Australia and abroad is noteworthy and a direct benefit to liable parties and MRI customers.”
