FPD Recycling FPD PRO recycling technology

FPD Recycling has handed its first ‘mercury-safe’ flat panel display robotic recycling machine, FPD PRO, over to Australian company CMA EcoCycle.

The FPD PRO from FPD Recycling is a fully automated robotic flat panel display (FPD) depollution machine that is designed to process 60 FPDs per hour, including televisions, monitors and laptops. Using artificial intelligence, the technology enables process speeds of up to 1.2 tonnes per hour. The technology can provide recovery rates of >80%.

Processing takes place in a controlled enclosure, minimising worker exposure to hazardous components. Hazardous waste is isolated within the enclosure. Cold cathode fluorescent lamp tubes containing mercury are isolated in a dedicated waste bin, and liquid crystal panels and diffuser sheets are separated and directed to dedicated collection bins. The FPD shell can be further processed using standard in-house recycling techniques.

Optional add-ons include mercury monitoring; engineering support; BFR Identification with XRF; product weighing; and manufacturer identification.

Maintenance of the FPD PRO, including replacement blades for cutting FPDs, is included in a fixed operational cost per screen.

The product meets the requirements of the EN 50625: 2-2 Treatment for CRT and FPDs 2015; EN 50625: 3-1 General depollution and EN 50625: 3-3 Depollution specification for CRTs and FPDs.
