No more local tenders as LGP appoints SULO
Thursday, 10 May, 2007
From 1 April 2007, NSW councils no longer need to invite tenders for the supply of mobile garbage bins (MGB).
Local Government Procurement (LGP), a company formed by the Local Government and Shires Association of NSW, has been prescribed under section 55(3) of the Local Government Act 1993.
This enables councils to use supply arrangements coordinated by LGP without the need to go to tender in their own right.
LGP and the Department of Commerce's State Contracts Control Board are the only two NSW entities that have this legislative ability.
A survey of all NSW councils conducted in late 2006 by LGP concluded that a contract for MGBs was a top priority. A request for tender (RFT) was then issued.
Sulo MGB Australia was appointed the sole supplier for contract LGP206, Mobile Garbage Bins and LGP general manager, Brian O'Mara is confident that Sulo will meet the requirements of NSW councils.
"LGP is constantly seeking to provide councils with top quality products at the best possible pricing. We want to work with quality suppliers who can meet the varying needs of the local government sector in NSW. With this contact we believe we have achieved all of this."
Sulo's national sales manager, John Kernahan said councils now have a simple process in place for the purchase of MGBs. "To place an order, councils simply contact Sulo directly and quote the LGP contract number 2/06. By doing this they can take full advantage of the competitive pricing available and meet the stringent tender requirements of LGP."
