Creating ‘new’ water

Representatives of the water and wastewater and coal seam gas industries will meet on the Gold Coast on 28 February to discuss whether the water generated during the production of coal seam gas can be harnessed and commercialised as new water.

The EcoForum conference stream ‘Capitalising on water from coal seam gas production’ will explore options that might be available to capture, treat and commercialise the significant quantities of often saline water that are generated during the process of producing coal seam gas.

Sustainable water management solutions need to be found if this new energy sector is to fully develop. Solutions are likely to involve bringing about systemic changes in approaches to policy, management systems, markets and technology applications.

Those with an interest in this topic are invited to attend. Delegates will consider the context for coal seam gas and its place in energy markets, the business challenges for players and the potential impacts of federal government initiatives on water, energy and climate.

The day will aim to capture the key issues on water management strategies and practice that could make a difference through innovations in policy, practice, technology, partnerships and water trading for this emerging industry.
