Xylem named to Dow Jones Sustainability Indices once again
Global water technology company Xylem has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for the second year in a row, in recognition of its ongoing sustainability initiatives.
According to Xylem CEO and President Steve Loranger, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) are “a highly respected reference point for investors interested in sustainability investing”. By tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide, the DJSI enable investors to integrate sustainability considerations into their portfolios.
RobecoSAM, an investment boutique focused on sustainability investing, invites the world’s 2500 largest companies (by free-float market capitalisation) to report annually on their sustainability performance. The result provides an in-depth analysis of various criteria, which includes “corporate governance, risk management, supply chain standards, environmental waste reduction, eco-efficiency, climate change mitigation, labour practices, occupational health and safety, and human capital development”, said Loranger.
Xylem has also joined the Ceres Company Network as part of its commitment to continuously improving its sustainability performance and disclosure. Loranger said the network “includes more than 70 companies across many industries that are committed to integrating environmental and social performance into their business strategies and initiatives”. The companies drive improvement by engaging with environmental and advocacy groups, industry and other stakeholders, including investors.
“As a leader in water, sustainability helps drive the core of our business,” said Loranger. “Because we see the benefits of balancing short- and long-term thinking with water issues, it’s natural to bring the same mindset to all areas of our business. Our products help our customers achieve their sustainability goals, and we are driving our sustainability program to all levels of our own company.”
