Clover Moore to give plenary keynote at Renewable Cities Australia Forum
The Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney, Clover Moore, will give the leading plenary keynote at Renewable Cities Australia Forum.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, the expanded two-day forum will look at how to increase clean, renewable energy using smart systems in Australian cities and towns. Nearly 30 business and government experts will share their plans, achievements and challenges in moving to renewable and innovative energy systems for electricity and low-carbon transport solutions.
In her role as Lord Mayor, Clover Moore initiated ‘Sustainable Sydney 2030’, a long-term plan to secure Sydney’s future as a leading international, green, livable and creative city. The City of Sydney Council this month unanimously backed the updated plan, reinforcing its commitment to source half its energy from renewables by 2030, among a host of other targets.
“The plan has been a tremendous success — since 2006, our economy has grown 32%, new dwellings 18% and the number of residents by 25%,” said Moore. “Over the same period, we’ve cut a quarter of our carbon emissions, and across our local government area, we’ve reduced emissions by 17%.”
“We are delighted to have Clover Moore, whose environmental leadership is globally recognised, to welcome delegates and give the plenary keynote for the Renewable Cities Australia Forum,” said Program Manager Mary Hendriks.
“In 2015, Sydney joined the ‘Compact of Mayors’, an international coalition committed to combating climate change.
“In 2014, Sydney received the European Solar Prize for its Renewable Energy Master Plan, and in 2011 became Australia’s first carbon neutral-certified government.”
Two other plenary keynotes will follow Moore: Professor Ross Garnaut, Chairman of ZEN Energy Technologies, and Martin Haese, Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide. This strong line-up of speakers will cover forum themes that include the corporate world’s role in growing renewable cities, updates from Australian city and business leaders on their progress to becoming renewable, and case studies on planning for 100% renewable.
“Renewable Cities includes sessions to profile the work of young leaders in local government, business and in the community,” said Anne-Marie Mina, marketing manager with forum organiser Exhibitions and Trade Fairs (ETF). “We’re delighted to have Clover Moore, a very well-known and active supporter of sustainable energy, speak.
“Cr Moore’s presence and knowledge will no doubt help to inspire young people working in the renewable energy industry.”
Renewable Cities Australia Forum will be co-located with the Australian Energy Storage Conference and Exhibition and will feature a new Renewable Cities Zone on the shared exhibition floor. This year’s forum will showcase how cities and regions are transforming their energy systems, while the workshop will feature case studies of electric transport and charging infrastructure.
Renewable Cities Australia Forum will be held at the International Convention Centre Sydney from 14–15 June 2017. For more information and to register, visit http://renewablecities.com.au.
