CEO of GBCA joins world green building leaders

The CEO of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), Romilly Madew, has been elected onto the Board of Directors of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC). The WorldGBC is a coalition of more than 90 green building councils, making it the largest international organisation influencing the green building marketplace.

“I am delighted to join some of the world’s most experienced leaders and advocates in the green building space. My appointment is a clear indication of Australia’s active role in the evolution of the global green building and sustainable development movement,” Madew said, following the WorldGBC board meeting in London.

According to its CEO Jane Henley, the WorldGBC is led by respected industry experts who are widely recognised for their contribution to sustainable development, and Madew is no exception.

“Romilly has been a significant driver of the sustainable building agenda in Australia, and under her leadership, the Green Building Council of Australia has grown to be one of the world’s largest and most influential. The WorldGBC looks forward to leveraging her expertise and experience to support green building councils on a global scale,” Henley said.

Madew’s appointment strengthens Australia’s standing on the Board of Directors, as she joins fellow Australian Tony Arnel, who is WorldGBC Immediate Past Chair and who continues to chair the Green Building Council of Australia. Former GBCA board member Ché Wall is also a previous chair and board member of the WorldGBC.

“The green building movement is a practical demonstration of how we can reshape our buildings and our built environment to support a better, greener future. Romilly has been at the forefront of this global movement for some time, and her new position on the WorldGBC Board of Directors recognises this valuable contribution,” Arnel said.

Madew also chairs the WorldGBC’s Rating Tools Task Force, which is focused on developing a common carbon protocol, socioeconomic categories in rating tools and a quality assurance guideline for new rating tools.

GBCA representatives sit on a number of WorldGBC committees, including the Council Development Committee, Rating Tools Committee and Asia Pacific Network.
