Proving tools to achieve energy savings

ActionEco is a web forum established by Fluke Corporation which is designed to give managers a place to learn low-cost, energy-saving techniques and share their own ideas and experiences. Available on www.ActionEco.org, it is designed to help organisations find ways to reduce their carbon footprint while cutting energy costs and increasing operational efficiency.

The forum explains the ‘why’ behind energy conservation, provides resources to cut energy use and gives visitors the opportunity to sign up and get involved. Every company can find and benefit from energy savings by leveraging assets they already have and tools that are readily available.

By taking action and establishing best practices, the average commercial facility can achieve an 18 to 25% reduction in energy costs.

Danaher Corporation, Fluke Corporation’s parent company, is a US$13 billion global corporation with hundreds of companies around the world. In Q3 2008, it launched an initiative to see if it could cut operational costs by analysing its use of energy and reducing all types of waste in one of its manufacturing facilities.

Out of a total annual energy and waste spend of US$1.3 million, the Danaher Corporation identified potential annual savings of US$365,000 with a 28% reduction in energy and waste costs including:

Jim Lico, Executive Vice-President, Danaher Corporation, said, “To demonstrate a 28% savings potential with a few days’ work is the kind of return I want to encourage.

“This was just one of Danaher Corporation’s hundreds of facilities. The team created a process that will allow Danaher Corporation’s companies to duplicate this system-wide. The potential to substantially cut energy and waste costs is real and significant.”
