Schneider Electric Compact NSX moulded-case circuit breakers with extended breaking capacity

Thursday, 08 August, 2013 | Supplied by: Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric has released an extended breaking capacity for its range of Compact NSX moulded-case circuit breakers (MCCBs), suitable for low-voltage applications spanning 100 to 630 A. Engineered to provide good protection and service continuity for high-demand power applications, the range offers a breaking capacity of 100 kA at 690 V and of 200 kA at 440 V.

There is a demand in the marine, oil and gas, and other natural resource extraction and processing industries for circuit breakers that will protect against extreme short-circuit faults in systems running paralleled power sources or large numbers of motor loads. The product range provides the extended breaking capacity required to enhance the level of safety in low-voltage systems running at up to 400/480 V, as well as the higher-efficiency 690 V power systems that are becoming increasingly common.

The range features an ability to withstand extreme fault conditions and remain operational after three faults, along with a remote control reclosing functionality that can help restore a circuit quickly, making it a suitable alternative to high-power fuses over the long term. The circuit breakers also provide the discrimination and coordination necessary to maximise continuity by isolating faults and avoiding system-wide outages. They offer embedded intelligence features such as energy metering, alarms, diagnosis and communication to help maximise energy efficiency and network reliability.

The Compact NSX MCCB can be supplied as part of a fully integrated 690 V power distribution solution that also includes Masterpact air circuit breakers (ACB) and Okken switchboards.
