The SunPower Light Saver is an energy-saving technology that is claimed to be able to save electricity consumption by over 20%. When installed on the light circuit, it adjusts optimal voltage for each lamp according to electricity supply conditions. It is suitable for all fluorescent lights and high-intensity discharge lamps.

The energy consumption in the lighting sector, whether in public lighting or private use, constitutes a high percentage of the total energy used throughout Australia. The power supply voltage has variations during the day. Voltage fluctuations and overvoltage in particular are extremely critical for lamps, as they accelerate their ageing by reducing the lamps’ duration and the luminous flux emitted in time.

The normal system voltage is 220~240 V while the required voltage for Ignition cycle is much lower, eg, 205 V for fluorescents. After ignition cycle, lamps need a constant volt to maintain luminous flux.

The SunPower Light Saver has a microprocessor to adjust the suitable voltage as needed by the lamp. In the case of input voltage fluctuation or overvoltage, the device will automatically regulate and stabilise the voltage by controlling the surge current and overvoltage.

The device is claimed to minimise electricity waste and extend the lamp and ballast’s life span by more than half while reducing maintenance costs. Light Saver has a compact design with minimal weight and transient voltage surge suppressor and soft-start/soft-stop functions. Installation is simple but must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
