VoltLogic awarded Australian certification

The VoltLogic energy management device, from Renewable Energy Solutions Australia (RESA), has been awarded AS4777 certification - the Australian standard for grid-connected inverters. The system is thus ready to connect to networks across the country.

The product solves one of the challenges to increasing the size and number of solar PV systems around Australia - the intermittent and variable inflows of power from solar PV. These commonly lead to voltage spikes, power outages and stress on the utility distribution network, with utility companies reacting by restricting the amount of power exported to the grid and, in many cases, any installation at all.

With no real way of controlling the volume of power exported per unit, consumers are refused new systems, utilities are frustrated and installers are unable to complete their work. The VoltLogic 5 kW single-phase unit limits power exported to the grid where such restrictions apply through its export control functionality.

“Its ability to limit energy export where restrictions apply, such as in many rural and regional areas, is a big win for utilities, installers and system owners alike,” said Michael LeMessurier, principal commercial manager of RESA. “Many projects that had previously been rejected because of restrictions will get a second chance now with the availability of VoltLogic.

“VoltLogic’s multifunctional platform delivers additional benefits including managing voltage rise ‘upstream’ in the grid and prevents dangerous spikes. It is also a key feature and will make the networks very happy.”

VoltLogic is currently being trialled at Palmerston Golf Course, Northern Territory. A number of other projects are in the pipeline in conjunction with networks in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.
