Silver Spring Networks selected by Unison for NZ smart grid deployment
Silver Spring Networks has announced that it has been selected by Unison for a smart grid project in New Zealand.
The company’s standards-based IPv6 networking solution will be deployed across the entirety of Unison’s service territory (in Hawke’s Bay, Rotorua and Taupo). Unison’s smart grid rollout is expected to deliver improved reliability and service for consumers, provide enhanced management of power grid assets, and enable greater overall energy efficiency.
“We are honoured to partner with Unison to deliver the standards-based networking platform underpinning its innovative smart grid strategy,” said Scott Lang, CEO of Silver Spring Networks. “Unison is deploying a smart grid infrastructure upon which it can deliver future innovations to customers and is helping establish New Zealand as a global benchmark for modern, efficient and smarter energy networks.”
“Silver Spring’s standards-based infrastructure allows us to leverage a single platform to provide many smart grid applications and solutions,” said Ken Sutherland, Unison Group Chief Executive. “Linked into our fibre backbone, Silver Spring’s networking platform will become the cornerstone for our smart grid by enabling real-time communication with network devices, as well as real-time monitoring of the status and quality of customer supply.”
The deployment leverages Silver Spring’s Gen4 networking technology, providing increased performance, reliability and security. Silver Spring’s standards-based IPv6 networking platform supports a range of solutions and applications focused on increasing power grid performance and improving energy efficiency. The company’s technologies, growing partner ecosystem and broad customer adoption have led to more than 12 million homes and businesses networked on its Smart Energy Platform worldwide.
