Origin and Tesla announce energy partnership in Australia
Origin Energy and Tesla Motors have announced a partnership to support the introduction of Tesla’s new electric vehicle to the Australian market.
Under the partnership, Origin, which is a supplier of government accredited 100% GreenPower, will provide Tesla customers with green energy products and a range of charging solutions for their homes and businesses.
Tesla will launch the new Model S five-door electric vehicle in the Australian market from mid-2013 after a successful introduction in the United States in June this year. Reservations for the Tesla Model S currently exceed 13,000 worldwide.
The partnership will enhance the overall experience of owning an electric vehicle in Australia by providing a one-stop shop for the required energy solutions. Tesla owners in Australia will have access to Origin’s accredited GreenPower, fully installed charging equipment and services, as well as efficient electricity management and advice.
Origin’s experience in home and business energy products, including its track record and market leadership in the development of low-carbon and renewable energy products, positioned the company as an obvious partner for Tesla.
Tesla Motors Country Manager for Australia & New Zealand Jay McCormack said, “Model S is the first premium electric sedan designed from the ground up. With an unprecedented driving range of 480 km, the most advanced electric powertrain and low maintenance, Model S has the potential to change the shape of motoring in Australia.
“This agreement with Origin will provide Model S owners the opportunity to use energy generated from renewable resources in Australia and reduce the transport sector’s dependence on oil, which is a goal both of our companies share.”
Origin CEO Energy Markets Frank Calabria said, “Origin looks forward to supporting the entry of the Model S into the Australian market, by providing all of the necessary energy solutions for customers. Together with Tesla, Origin hopes to help progress the development of electric vehicles as a viable, convenient and more sustainable alternative to vehicles fuelled by petrol.”
