Australian Smart Lighting Summit 2015
The Australian Smart Lighting Summit, to be held from 8-9 September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, will draw over 150 lighting industry experts who will discuss strategies and new technologies for public lighting retrofits aimed at reducing energy consumption and costs.
The event follows the success of the 2014 summit, which witnessed the participation of over 40 councils from all over Australia committed to the deployment of innovative, intelligent and energy-efficient lighting initiatives. Participants in last year’s summit claimed to appreciate the interactive nature and ability to talk and engage with a vast array of stakeholders.
“I particularly like that we had lighting manufacturers, people installing large-scale lighting, lots of questions from the floor and a fair bit of interaction,” said Paul Brown from Ironbark Sustainability. “It’s really important to get different views with different ideas about how things should run or what the right types of technology are.”
The 2015 summit will focus on areas such as street lighting projects, lighting design for precincts, recreational facilities and more. It comes in the middle of what has been described as an energy-efficiency revolution, with April 2015 having seen the changeover of the 200,000th energy-efficient street light.
