1 MW rooftop solar system for Brisbane Markets

Brisbane Markets has selected Todae Solar to install a 1.06 MW rooftop solar system - Australia’s largest privately owned rooftop system and one of the top 10 largest installed across the country. Todae Solar was selected by Brisbane Markets in a competitive tender process through a winning bid brokered by Solar Choice.

Andrew Young, the CEO of Brisbane Markets, explained that the company had been “looking at alternative energy sources to reduce our dependence on grid electricity and our exposure to the massive cost escalations we have seen in recent years”.

“We do believe that solar power will be a key part of the future electricity mix and, after a number of feasibility assessments, considered that the time was right to move with the installation of a sustainable energy platform,” Young continued. “We do believe that, ultimately, we will have a significant portion of our energy generated from our own rooftop solar installations.”

Young said the BML conducted “an intensive evaluation” to find the right partner for the project and “felt extremely confident in Todae Solar, given their leadership position within the industry”.

“Combined with their best-in-class technology and outstanding reputation in the commercial solar sector, Todae Solar was selected as the preferred supplier for this landmark project,” he said.

Todae Solar CEO Danin Kahn said the project is “a very important milestone in the development of the commercial solar sector in Australia” and will “hopefully act as a catalyst for other organisations to seriously consider generating their own power through solar”.

The system will comprise 3350 315 W solar panels and 36 solar inverters. Construction is expected to commence early in 2015.
